It was a different situation with Sal and Garner than Joan and the fat guy.  Sal was slipping creatively and Don was looking for an excuse to get replace him.  Joan is much more instrumental to the agency, and it was made very clear she could say no.  Besides, Sal was not at all discrete, and Don hates that.

I think it's both, and I think it's going to come back and bite Lane in the ass.  Before, Pryce was the only partner who knew the nuts and bolts of how an office ran.  Now Joan has a partnership stake, and a vested interest in how the money flows in and out of SCDP.

I can see Cramer in the Country Music Hall of Fame, but he was never much of an innovator and while prolific, he was kind of a hack.  Scotty Moore makes all kinds of sense being in the hall because he was distinct, and influential.
