It is older, and not original with this guy—I remember seeing it print as far back as 1973.

Shut the fuck up, @MisterPemberton:disqus.
So Erik Adams claims.
Hang on, are we sure it's not an arglebargle?
Buzz, no, you're one of the veterans here and we hope you'll stay. If not, I will miss you.
I'll continue occasionally popping in on the CZ, Tolerability Index, and elsewhere, and I'll (of course) be commenting again when The Shield (Classic) reviews return. NuDisqus has proved to be a lot less scary than we think over at The Dissolve, but then we've never had an article go past 500 comments.
Collateral wouldn't restore my faith in this site but it'd get me 50% there.
Oh God no. I just kept wanting Denis Leary to kill everyone.
She's not a bad actress but she's playing an impossible character: Scully's sister as an FBI agent. I'm not sure how that could work.
There's most definitely some good stuff here, but they had to completely destroy any kind of continuity or coherence in the master story to make it happen, which resulted in season 9. So yeah, it really should have ended with the closing shot of "Existence."
"Scully’s pregnant, and Skinner knows. I’m not sure if this was revealed at the end of last season, even though I watched the finale before I started season eight, but there you go." Zack, come on. Scully tells Skinner in the last moment of the finale.
Against the Day has a lot of Pynchon's best and some of his absolute worst stuff. There's a moment (almost exactly at the midpoint) that's quite literally breathtaking.
Do as you will, sez I. We're just grateful that you're putting in the energy to do this.
Yeah, it's borderline "Not That Good."
And the not-as-good-but-still-fun Stanley, Son of Theodore.
It's not that surprising. Pynchon's description of it was something like "my next short story, The Crying of Lot 49, which for some reason was marketed as a 'novel,' and in which I apparently forgot most of what I thought I'd learned up until then." He was always aware of making his work too schematic and not caring…
The 90s compilation Theodore worked for me, with some deep cuts and live versions; Living Colour's "Talkin' Bout a Revolution," Kate Bush's "Be Kind to My Mistakes," Shawn Colvin's live "Shotgun Down the Avalanche" are the standouts.
Woo hoo! Congratulations and health to you, Mrs., and offspring.
FINALLY made ceviche right! Nothing complex (nothing I do ever is), just chunks of snapper, onion, a big-ass serrano pepper, tomato, garlic salt, and cilantro. The secret is to just drown it in lemon and lime juice. The snapper comes out with a perfect texture—really firm but not at all chewy. When I'd eaten all…
You've got it right. It's just sometimes that kind of book, just a detailed account of detailed events (I can't call it a "story") is fun in its own way. The interest is entirely strategic rather than character-based, like watching a really interesting chess game play out.
