I have never been able to understand the controversy over Girls, because I'm a heterosexual male and Lena Dunham is fucking hot.

Yup, The Dark Knight, the most simultaneously morally complex and popular movie since The Godfather Part 2.  Another great detail:  every major character is a liar.

Second.

Gone Baby Gone, Capote, and The Office, early season 5: Surprise, They're All Amy Ryan!

GUMBO NIGHT!  I had made some truly good soup two nights before and had some leftover stock and andouille sausage.  So I got the traditional celery/onion/bell pepper, okra, and some bay shrimp and made gumbo.  (No tomatoes necessary, the stock was already tomato-heavy.)  Seasonings were a little Cajun spices, white

Stay active, and not just by looking for work.  Schedule things for every day, like reading something difficult or walking to new places.  And cook on a regular basis—it always gives you an opportunity to tell yourself "hey look, I did something awesome."  You will get through this, promise.

Again, it sounds like Prop 8 was decided on a question of standing, without any discussion of the content of the law.  (It would have been the same if the proposition was about, say, water rights.)  So I can see that.

That sounds exactly appropriate, except I suspect he actually secretly wants that.

Because the AVC hasn't done it in a while, Triple Feature Thread (be sure you name a category too)

Fair point, but that is young, pre-awesome Ronnie.

That's entirely possible; this may be the kind of case where the dissents go in different, even opposite, directions.  (Scalia's dissents are gonna be fun, they may be just YOU'RE ALL GOING TO HELL NOW RROWL GROWL BUH BUH BUH.)  The Supreme Court has really been drawing a bright line between federal power and state

Actually that was a little optimistic; the Prop 8 strikedown was upheld on the principle that citizens can't bring suit proclaiming a law constitutional when state officials have decided not to do that.  Which makes legal sense, but leaves other marriage bans in place.  But that just means we organize and shut those

Prop 8 just went down too.

And every single look is badass.

I told the Lady Wallflower while we were watching this (http://www.youtube.com/watc… ) (and I was crying like a little girl) that gay equality and acceptance had its D-Day some time ago—there's a lot more to be done, there's a lot of struggle ahead, but the fight has been won.  Everything goes toward rights now.

Yup.  She told him, "if you take credit for my performance, I will kill you."  (I imagine that he replied in his best William H. Macy voice, "that's fair.")

Ding!  Quite young too, and less enraged than in Schizopolis.  Although God knows she should yell "you WORM!" at Goldblum at some point.  Watson deserved it.

It's gotta be out there somewhere.  William Nicholson did the screenplay, and he did the simplest, most necessary thing:  made a story out of it, with characters who want different things and run into conflicts  (So, y'know, drama.)  All the performances are great, with Alan Howard (as Maurice Wilkins) as my favorite.

No argument from me on that; Dead Ringers or Naked Lunch seem like near-definitive Cronenberg.  The Fly will always be my personal favorite, though; it's as much a Jeff Goldblum film as a Cronenberg film.  (It's part of Goldblum's mid1980s Triptych of Nerds performances—this, Into the Night, and the incredibly unknown

Drink every time there is an unexplained change in Ronnie's facial hair.  I'll reserve your bed at the clinic now.
