I agree, not so much that Obama went too far but that he went the wrong way.  Far better than "you didn't build that" would be "you shouldn't build that." (EDIT: remember, Obama used "that" to refer to roads, bridges, etc.)  I am a big Alexander Hamilton fan, and I'm into the principle that some things are best done

The classical liberal model, of course, sucks at describing society, since it takes the individual as the fundamental principle.  It doesn't address things like legacies, continuity, authority, so forth; was it John Stuart Mill who critiqued the classical liberal vision of government as a temporary arrangement of

@avclub-ea04182300135e3b9c9a152de2a2f66e:disqus , first, thanks for being so darned reasonable in the course of this discussion.  Other commenters have chimed in with some good points, I'll just add two:

Well said. It's worth noting that John Locke, in defining the "inalienable rights" as life, liberty, and property (sound familiar?) found the right to property only in the right to keep what you worked for, not in the right to keep what you inherited or invested.

"You keep using that word.  I do not think it means what you think it means."

Yeah, that impressed the shit out of me.  Michael Kamen (God rest 'im) never struck me as an interesting composer, but he was one hell of an orchestrator (which is, to this day, an underrated skill in classical music) and was perfect for this project.

@Scrawler2:disqus , seriously, I'm lost too.  Are we doing sexual innuendo, pet grooming, or mixed drink recommendations here?  That last one could've been any of the three.

Broke his neck diving into too-shallow water.

Ocean Beach is wonderful, really the most San Diegan area of San Diego.  Hodad's forever, baby.  (mmm…frings.)

I did catch the Zodiac material, so definite thanks for that.  And don't worry, we all know this is Random Roles, not Complete Roles.

Holy shit, there was a Common Ground miniseries? Had no idea, and that is one of the best works of journalism around. (J. Anthony Lukas, RIP.)

9 years older than me.  ("Is any of that a problem?" "Not if you've lived a life without regret!  WAAAAAAAAAAUUUUGHHHHH!!!!")

God fucking dammit.  This is officially the last day that we're young.

Solaris too; both the ship here and the space station there feel old, decayed, and with a bunch of unwashed socks all over the place.

"Now it's time to go sleepybye, you worthless piece of garbage."

Whew.  I was getting worried there.

Good morning. We would like to…wait, what time is it? Holy sh—I must have—(RING) shit, I gotta take this. Yeah? No, I can't, I mean I really want to but—look, I'm sorry but there's this thing here I gotta take care of. Check with Craig or maybe the Narrator, they can get there before me. Yes, I'll try. I know. Hugs to

Yeah, that is a metal-y subtitle, but the music of #6 is more rockabilly. #10 is more abrasive and about the mass of sound and chords rather than lines, which is why I recommended it.

That scene is right up there with the tiger scene in Manhunter in the genuinely sexual/disturbing category.

I'll go farther than that: great works adapt badly to other genres, and they can only be adapted unfaithfully. Great works depend very much on their genre.
