I haven't heard the album yet, but somehow, I disagree with the review. Neurosis albums are never not awe-inspiring. I think that the legions of bands like Isis and their ilk diluted people's ears for the gravitas of a new Neurosis album.

Neurosis does, indeed, transcend the genre. They aren't even 'of' the genre. They have a completely different aesthetic from metal bands other than loud, overdriven guitars and aggressive vocals. I can totally see why people who are not metal fans, but who are fans of bands like Swans and Pink Floyd could get into
