I don't know why I'm replying to a 4 year old comment, but I don't think Picard says anything about believing in a god in that speech; he just says that he thinks human existence may have a dimension that goes beyond our understanding of reality. It's not really an anti-atheist stance as such.

Yeah, he got an actual storyline of his own that didn't even involve Raylan. That's pretty major for a character who previously, in a good year, would maybe be permitted to deliver half a dozen barbed quips and snipe a couple of people.
