"Sherlock" at least features a character who generally resembles the character written by Doyle. The Ritchie version of Holmes, rather than being a sociopathic loner with a brilliant mind, is essentially a James Bond style swaggering ladies man whose incredible deductive powers are reduced to the ability to work out…

Like it or not, I wouldn't call Downton Abbey pretentious at all. It's just a fun, populist, soapy show and it doesn't pretend to be anything else.
Also, using "British" as a pejorative isn't exactly the most open-minded attitude.
