The only real contender for less memorable than Harry (who was fine!) is Romana I, and c'mon, Mary Tamm was great. No knock on her she wasn't Lalla Ward.

I *know*, dang it, but I'm pretty much ready to declare Capaldi my favorite Doctor, and I'd like it if he could be the longest-tenured of the new series Docs. Especially since it's S9/10 Capaldi I'm really into, so I'd like a third season with that performance.

Four episodes in, and I'm already pretty much there, at least as new series companions go.

I don't remember that from Terror of the Vervoids, but since that's the only "one with the plants" I recognize, I'm stuck.

Well I am always in the last place I look. Typically a mirror.

I know it's not happening, but I hope against hope all involved look at how good this season is and say "Screw it, let's just keep Capaldi and Mackie on for another year." And *yes*, I know Capaldi wants to leave himself. I'm just hoping he'd be more confident he can keep his energy and commitment up or what have you.

Is this really the power of love ending? I mean, I don't know whether that term has ever gotten a really strict definition, especially in a Doctor Who context, but this resolution felt way more about accepting the inevitable and taking responsibility for one's loved ones than a kind of "love conquers all" sort of

Just generally, I thought this episode had by far the best use of this Doctor's total face blindness.

In fairness, if we're not counting Adric or the other 5th Doctor holdovers right at the end there, the 4th Doctor's companions are a murderer's row of awesome.

Her calling him her grandfather and again batting away his argument that he didn't look old enough was just … *kisses fingers*

Yeah, I totally see aspects of this being a bridge too far for some viewers. Though I will say I don't think it's that she's struggling with anything, necessarily — just that she wants her life to not just be all about the Doctor. Which is a fair thing to want, I'd say, even if a lot of previous companions haven't

I didn't notice I'd left!

Between this, "Ghost Light," and "Hide," Doctor Who's haunted house game is pretty strong.

Right, it's just stressful in the moment. What can you do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thing is we never really saw 4 and Adric together properly by themselves except for very short bits of Keeper of Traken and Logopolis. I'm legitimately intrigued by doing a 4/Adric season (or maybe just a couple stories as a boxset) for Big Finish, just to see that dynamic explored in a way that would let us judge it

Colin Baker is *still* explaining and justifying why he didn't save those two henchmen from the acid bath in Vengeance on Varos, so yeah, it's a hard sell even when the Doctor is meant to be darker.

I forgot he co-wrote that one. But Curse of the Black Spot and Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS are really not very good at all.

I know a lot of people say that's the reason they had Matt Smith age, but that seems so goofy to me — are people *really* going to only want the 11th Doctor to show up mid-Trenzalore? David Tennant looked a bit older in Day of the Doctor than he did in The End of Time, and same with Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee

I like fun! I can't prove it right this second, but, uh, seriously, you guys…

It don't think it's as much about dissecting the show or taking it seriously, as I felt this way in stories before I started reviewing the show — Bob's Burgers gets me to *invest* in Bob, because it does good character storytelling, and so there are sometimes limits to how much I want to see him suffer.
