Yeah, just an oversight on my part. The reasons for its accidental exclusion are achingly prosaic: (1) It airs on WGN, which alphabetically is right at the bottom of the TV Guide listings, and (2) The listings don't consistently mark new episodes as such, so a quick glance can suggest it's a rerun.

I'm a Cubs/Bulls/Wolverines fan. It's pretty much my destiny to be a dick to Wisconsinites.

The A.V. Club
Upvotes are not endorsements.

I would not argue their scumminess, and the last few months have been particularly bad on that score. But I do tend to think you want at least a few publications out there willing to be scummy, because some important stories just aren't broken by outlets that refuse to get their hands dirty. Doesn't make *that* story

I think there's something to be said for the idea that at least the original Star Wars is more than the sum of its "objective" parts, that it works in a way that somehow takes all its would-be weaknesses (the dialogue, some of the performances) and turns them into part of the film's larger charm. It works holistically

Eh, Gawker's fine. Or, at least, whatever its other problems, I'm not sure I'd consider having a thin skin to be one of them. Maybe that's more the case on some of the other Gawker Media sites that I don't read as often.

You are correct, of course. I just felt like restricting the focus of this particular point.

I think there's an art to getting along with commenters that can be worth cultivating if you're on a site with a decent commentariat, like the A.V. Club. At the very least, I still get something out of engaging with you lunatics, though I try not to write quite as many long-winded defenses as I did back in, like,

I feel like someone who's actually in organized crime wouldn't feel the need to flex quite so much.

I wrote for a Gawker site for a couple years, which in many ways is the journalistic equivalent of nude modeling. And, though I don't imagine I need to tell you that, I mean that as an entirely good thing.

Sam Barsanti has a pretty good relationship with the commentariat.

Well why the fuck didn't I just write that?

Yes I would, Core Concept.

They did air "Tina, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" last December *after* the Christmas episode for no damn reason, so I don't know if we can completely rule it out.

That's not quite what I suggested. What I was suggesting was that Schindler's List is a reminder (albeit a fictionalized one) of the actual atrocities committed by Hitler and the Nazis, and that it's maybe a little uncool to take one of history's worst mass murders and treat the pseudohistorical conspiracy theories

The top pick isn't really meant to be an endorsement, and I'm not actually suggesting anyone watch it. The top pick just a place to spotlight something notable in the day's TV watching, and I didn't really see anything I really wanted to flag in the regular coverage rotation, so it's fun to shake things up every once

Dammit, I don't!

I did say the joke was wonderfully esoteric!

Yeah, I realized that after the post went up. If I had been a little more precise, I'd probably call the Mike Scully episodes (of which that's one) mid-period Simpsons, with everything Al Jean has done since returning constituting the late period. Which still means, what, a full 10+ seasons is late-period Simpsons at

Such is the power of the crotch chop, then.
