I don't know if anyone checked the credits, but I'd guess it's writer Wendy Molyneux, as she also voices Jen, and they sounded more or less identical. But I could definitely be incorrect!

Yeah, but then, no one is Regular Size Rudy. Hell, Regular Size Rudy is only barely Regular Size Rudy.
I prefer to stick to my trademark style, which I like to call "instantly frigging dated."
Dammit, I'm still thinking in terms of the A.V. Club's central time publishing system. Not sure how readily I can tweak a headline, but I'll give it a shot.
Yeah, it's possible we would have given this a miss if not for the Gilligan connection. But we did review House for years and years, and this wouldn't be the first non-NCIS/non-CSI CBS procedural we've taken a swing at to see if it's of any interest. Right now … eh, but I'd say there's still some stuff here.
Eloquently stated.
I mean, I wouldn't really describe it as "dour." Even if you're not on board with saying it's pretty good, I'd then say it slides into cheesily enjoyable.
Honestly, your beef is as much with Disney XD's insanely random scheduling as it is with anything else, because it really is a pain in the ass to keep track of. I make a point of being aware of when it's going to be on since I review it, and I try to email the Monday WOT writer when I can, but it doesn't always happen.
It's still possible we might take a look at it! Sometimes it's just hard to find the right fit for these things, especially for something like this that such a small segment of the readership even has access to. Though I should say that the "top pick" status doesn't mean much beyond the fact that it happens to be the…
It's like you don't even get the underlying concept of POI being the people's top pick, now and forever.
In fairness, if the "intriguing" bit is meant to be a direct quote, that was just in reference to the cast, which is pretty fun and eclectic. But the presence of a fun and eclectic cast has almost zero correlation with the actual quality of movies, as years of staring agog at the overqualified ensembles of…
Does anyone have that standard? Because I wouldn't have thought that's implicit in my review. I'm just pointing out why this episode is excellent without maybe being one of the best episodes ever, which by definition isn't going to apply to every episode.
These reviews aren't really meant to be about plot recap; they're meant to be backward-looking reflections on the episode you presumably just watched, unlike, say, a movie review, where there's more of an expectation that the reader will decide whether to watch the movie based on the review.
I'm fine with that kind of high-level argument. I just tend to think we're still at a point culturally where it does more harm than good to focus on masculinity/femininity, because I think it's still way too easy to conflate how gender tends to be performed in a general sense with some kind of underlying biological,…
Oh god, do I really use "serialization" that much?
How many hours do you have to spare?
What, Winona doesn't strike you as a huge DS9 fan, to the point that she thinks of Wallace Shawn primarily as Grand Nagus Zek? (I mean, she only got into it because she loved Terry Farrell so much on Becker, but still.)
Have you met us?
And we keep wondering why no one is willing to give the A.V. Club those damn launch codes!
It's got to be the worst of the (official) Connerys, right? I dunno though: That one might be so deliriously, campily awful that it loops back around to being kinda strangely good. (For my money, Moonraker is the all-time champ of that category.) I remember A View To A Kill just being straight-up oppressive in its…
