I thought this could have been interesting to explore further. I just watched Sound and Fury (about cochlear implants, it's meh), and I think the saddest thing in that movie is meeting children with CI's whose parents chose not to learn ASL or identify their child as deaf.

I also wish they had explored her lack of deaf identity, and also more about how the cochlear doesn't really replace hearing.

I also found that really unrealistic. As someone who has recently taken up ASL, he would have to spending some serious one-on-one time with a fluent signer to already know all that vocab and syntax. Also, he said he takes up one new thing a month, so are we to believe that in the middle of this "month" he's already
