The Royal sketch was just brilliant. A great concept. Old-fashioned in its one-liner silliness, but contemporary in its raunchiness. The best thing was the performers though. It was so fun watching Hader, a savant who takes his characterizations very seriously (I'm saying that as a compliment), play against Short who

I know, @avclub-cfe912f5cb3aa572bd1c9ae2a9b82207:disqus !  I hated SCTV at the time, especially Short. I was quite young when SCTV was in its prime (I was 9 when it ended!), so I don't think I really got it. I liked Bob and Doug, but that was it. Time for a revisit!

I hated Martin Short back in the 80s, but he was so great in this episode.

My favorite SNL sketch in decades. Loved how silly and old fashioned it was. Marty waiting for the laugh after the gloriously obvious "Downton Abbey" line… it was old-time show-biz, and making fun of old-time show-biz, all at once.

Yeah, I think Howard had a love/hate thing with Artie. He knew that Artie was gold for the show, but he resented that the fans liked Artie so well and that Artie was simply funnier off-the-cuff than Stern. Stern is the best radio-show ringleader of all time, but he is not content unless he is also the funniest,

Agree about the Stern show. I was so addicted when Artie was on the air. There's never been anyone better at whatever it was he did on that show. Nowadays I only turn Stern on when I don't have my ipod handy. I should dump Sirius already. So sad.

I'd like to hear him open up about Stern, and how the Howard gang has turned their backs on him. That's my impression anyway. Maybe Lange doesn't see it that way.

When he was on the Stern show he told stories spontaneously and he had a million of them. They were always funnier in that format than when he prepares them for interviews or stand-up.
