I think Gendry's best worst case scenario is that he ends up as some brainwashed knight fighting for the Lord of Light. I think his worst case scenario is some sacrificial magic to make Stannis stronger.

I do like seeing the "consequences" of magic, though. So there's at least that in the scenes.

@avclub-3db41011acc2d229176bf6a92202728d:disqus I think the "Friendzone" term just implies a certain obligation on the (traditionally) female part. Like "Ugh, I spend all this time with you and you don't want to bone me?! What gives?" which is where the dislike comes from.

Yeah, I got that vibe too which is terrible because it's almost impossible for me to here any bar from that score and not immediately want to watch the films.
