Thank you for that, Mrs. Stromberg.

Maybe, but not the cool kind though … the kind that are still limited by a human's biological makeup and are too dumb to do anything without another device doing it for them.

It's not really a joke … it's only a slightly exaggerated description of how most people are now being conditioned to conceive of the world and themselves.

The scariest thing about the film may be that, in this, they will eventually come to be seen as ahead of their time (by future idiots (in two or three years)).

It is indeed a good list (much better than most film school syllabi, actually), but, really, "The Lavender Hill Mob" beat out "Diary of a Country Priest"?

Agreed, but to make it more confusing, in Ontario up until eight or nine years ago, the 'G' rating for movies was called 'F', as in 'Family'; thus you could see an 'F'-rated movie with the certain knowledge you wouldn't hear the F-word in it; also, if a movie was given an 'F', it meant it was (morally) good, but if

Or maybe the movies so far in 2012 are of the same quality as previous recent years, and we're just now starting to wise up…

I am truly unable to tell if that bit was a real part of the story, or a joke by O'Neal.

That would be "upton", wouldn't it?

Is her name pronounced "purse", like Charles Sanders Peirce?

Well, it worked for "Killer of Sheep" (that runaway hit of yesteryear).

The "Joy to the World" bit was the only part I thought was remotely interesting (but then, I only saw this as an adult, and I don't think I would have felt the same way as a kid).  On the other hand, there was something vaguely racist about the 'Orient' kings and their camels…

And that's why you're the colonel.

It's like "Jeanne Dielman" with wookies…

Yeah, "cool" like a 12-year old girl at the mall with fishnets and too much eyeliner…

Has Guy Ritchie ever done anything other than use stylistic flourishes that look cool (though that's debatable) but contribute nothing?

The Naked Island is one of the best films ever made, and also is unavailable in any North American format (not even an old VHS release).  Anyone who doesn't have a problem with slow-paced serious-themed films (think Ozu or Bresson) should do everything they can to check it out!

Does the demise of Grinderman and the demise of Mr. Cave's moustache seem related to anyone else (that is, does anyone else find them possibly related, not … never mind)?

Raymond Luxury-Yacht commenting on a post about Chapman could have been almost as good as that Nicole Krauss thing…

Seriously, what the hell happened to David Gordon Green?  How is this the work of the same guy who made "George Washington"?
