I think there's a good chance it will as the younger guard of critics and directors comes up.  It's not in my top ten of all time, but it might be in my top twenty.

I think JAWS is still his best.  It was before he started putting messages in.  He might be the greatest natural born filmmaker of all time but a great thinker he ain't, and he conveyed  more about obsession in JAWS than if he'd let his brain get in the way.

L'ATALANTE is one of my - well, I don't really know what the fuck to call them, but they're the opposite of guilty pleasures, they're the films you're supposed to love if you're a film geek/cineaste, and although I liked the way the ugly captain's lower lip jutted out, I could barely stay awake through the damn thing,

Not a bad list - we've got some overlap…

My favorite Kubrick and favorite movie of all time is 2001, and THE SHINING is #2.  It's actually a little pathetic how many times I've seen THE SHINING - probably over 100 times including 3 times when it first came out, then at rep showings and such, then on VHS and DVD.   I've seen 2001 a fair number of times over

I think you could make a case for NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN,  THERE WILL BE BLOOD, and ZODIAC.

I get that, even though 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY is my favorite film of all time.  I find it spell-binding, but when people say "But it's a boring piece of shit!" I don't really have a rebuttal, because I can certainly see why others might find it boring.
