I don't think that's fair.  We laugh AT the characters when they do laughable things, like making a roommate sign—and live up to every ridiculous clause of—a roommate agreement, or blow up an elevator with experimental rocket fuel.

It's a tough balancing act.  One can't make another person change, but people often need a push from outside to make a change for themselves.
