In this movie they will fall down several massive waterfalls and fight orcs in mid-air. It will eat up 40 minutes of the film.
Maybe it was also a matter having essentially done the sequence in Fellowship. I'm talking about the part in Moria, where there's also some cliif-jumping and naturally a fair bit of swashbuckling. Perhaps Jackson wanted to distinguish it from that.

Shock is not perfect, but has great atmosphere, a couple of nice jump scares, and a crazy cool soundtrack. All horror movies should have funk bass.

Demons fucking rocks. Guy rides around on a motorbike with a katana and there's a crazy cool soundtrack. I did see it in an ecstatic theatre so I guess that helped.
I too was put off by the fact that the main characters generally are assholes. The way Hotlips and Robert Duvall are sold short as human beings, whereas our freewheeling protagonists are supposed to be charming in their irreverence, is pretty offputting. It's the kind of film that's interesting for its context.…
