Honestly, many of the people defending BBT make good points.  But I cant bring myself to "Like" their posts in support…I just don't have that much integrity.

Of course, it would have to actually be on TV first…

I would say most of them have had moderate success, with Jennifer Aniston doing pretty well until she became too old for movies.

I don't think anyone was really arguing that the joke in question wasn't a joke.  But the timing and audience are part of the show, and they ruined it.  People say to ignore the audience, but it's really not that easy, and really unnecessary when there is probably something more compatible they can watch.

I would have thought the more obvious comparison would be Abed (traits of autism, same TV slot)….but of course all that would do is highlight how outclassed the character and actor are.

HIMYM has a funny caveat though.  It's a single-cam sitcom with a laugh track, though lots of people (including me) think of it as multi-cam.

Yes…and to compare TBBT favorable to anything, you would have to bring it down.

Um…yes, in fact, the great majority of scientists, science fiction fans, and other types of geeks and nerds and probably philosophy academics too (which are a crazy different subset of people) do not act like Sheldon, who for one thing is supposed to have Asperger's.

He may not have said BBT is necessarily "better" than those comedies, but part of his strategy appears to be trying to bring down those AV Club favorites (ineptly) to prop BBT up, which should not be necessary if you really want to praise BBT for its own merits.

That's not so bad though.  I think the worst thing about the article are the desperate and superficial comparisons to single-camera comedies (seriously Ron and Sheldon?).

Fair enough.

I have high expectations for the comments section of that BBT article.

The claim was made by the writer.  Aldo Kerast is merely responding to it.

Nuggets from his "About Me" page:

Yeah, but the author did kind of take a shot at…well basically the AV Club audience.

Your comment is its own rebuttal.

I liked this little nugget:

Next episode, they reveal that grandma runs a brothel.

The list of outstanding actresses in a comedy is surprisingly good, but the lists for outstanding lead and supporting comedic male actors (including its winner) are predictably atrocious.  Seriously, 3 Modern Family actors?  At least none of them won.

Fox is pretty good in The Good Wife, when he kind of plays against type (still charming, but conniving and unlikeable).
