Man, now I'm feeling sad for not having gone to Rififi. Sounds like it was a great place. Plus, the fact that it was on the side of a movie theater that used to be Yiddish theater was always a cool point.

Yes to In Living Color, maybe for Dana Carvey Show.

The only way that would really be the same show if both end with the clinking of glasses after a job well done.

Well, unfortunately, I found out that I didn't get the Entertainment Weekly internship after all. I found that out on Wednesday, which makes it a very fun way to get this new year in motion. I have recovered from it though. Now, I'm just determined to try to get a job or an internship before 2013 ends, with a

@avclub-782066c88e9c574d6085f3ddfc7032e4:disqus I'm not sure about all of them, but I do know that Django is disqualified, as all of Tarantino's screenplays are, because Tarantino doesn't belong to the WGA.

@avclub-b0dae075785888267fc19871f3e7dab7:disqus Even The Queen Of Versailles would count as having a script since it would be a matter of determining what footage to present and in what specific order. It's a matter of editing and determining what specific effects the filmmaker wants to include. All of this would be

@avclub-5e920dca2fbeb852c6ec52cb2f27af02:disqus I probably could have figured as such. But I was still curious. I've heard of what he's referencing in his follow up post, but I've always thought of them as precursors to the slasher film and not slashers themselves. And I really would not count Night Of The Living Dead

I haven't seen the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, so I can't comment on the quality of it. But how can it be a send up of a genre that hadn't really solidified into a genre until the 80's, which this film predated?

Mine is very simple: read a little bit from a book every day. Flexible on long it has to be, but I can get distracted by so much Internet and other media consumption that I don't read as much as I should. And as someone who loves reading, that's a terrible shame.

Man, this is why I love this board. Nowhere else would I have ever seen a very convincing argument that the Dominion stands in as a metaphor for WWI era Germany. Kudos to you, @avclub-f09e57b700c3f50f42e812264b8f7d4f:disqus !

Oooh, Hey Arnold next week! Definitely looking forward to that, as that was always one I really enjoyed. Not sure whether it works as a representative episode, but I really enjoyed the one where there's a restaging of the opera Carmen with all of the kids. Good music, clever conceit, and it does a good job of

There are a few things I'm hoping to read this month. The most immediate is Will Schwalbe's The End Of Your Life Book Club, since I'm going to a book club discussion for it this Thursday. I haven't gotten super far into it, but the little I've read so far has been great. It's a non-fiction account of how Schwalbe and

@avclub-cb10f554d73e40f723febf42a006a887:disqus Not sure if you'll see this, since this is rather late, but I wanted to let you know that, in three episodes, we will get an episode that focuses on Whale again and gives us even more backstory. I'm definitely down for seeing what possible new takes will happen with Dr.

@avclub-d4c7fc6b6bfd3d66f33b8a121d49cefd:disqus I just saw this now. And no, not at all. These were both first dates and thus there was no expectation that this was an exclusive relationship, merely trying to see whether there was compatibility. I'd only be angry at either of them if I asked either one of them to be

@avclub-ba9fab001f67381e56e410575874d967:disqus As far as I know, you don't need an NYU association to show up to the club. I'm fairly certain that one of our members was not an alumni, merely a friend of someone who went to the club and who continued to show up after the friend graduated. It meets every Thursday

I had a feeling I'd screw that one up. Apologies for that. Tried to do my best without looking back.

@avclub-29501df08e5d9ae59e432e4f188d3735:disqus One never knows if advice will need to be called for on other parts of life. And, even though you had no qualifications for it, I still liked the advice that you and everyone else here gave, so thank you for that.
As for alternate names, maybe Hanukkah Harry's Revenge?

@avclub-489acfbfa4d2424403acb81699170ac2:disqus I'm glad you're enjoying the Sean Howe book. It really is a very well written account of the dynamics of Marvel Comics and the balance between commerce and art. The main lesson I took away is that if you were a writer or artist for Marvel, it was a pretty thankless
