I can see that argument. It's definitely something that's never been directly addressed until now.

Re: an older actor, I could see that. Especially given that historically his wife Sancia was related to Alfonso of Aragon, there's certainly reason for it. Going to depend on how they want to fill the void Juan's leaving.

The mere fact that Charlie Day has never been nominated indicates that every Emmy voter needs to be demoted to doing the Charlie work.

Sadly I don't think The Borgias is going to get much Emmy love - it's too far below the radar after the AMC and HBO dramas. If Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons can't get a nomination, they're not going to notice Harris, Arnaud or Oakes, much as I'd like to see their names in the conversation.

I read it very much as mercy-killing at the time, though the motivations for getting to that point were clearly personal.

Well, he killed Giovanni Sforza for a lot of reasons - he set the French troops on the convent where Ursula was living, he called the pope swine to Cesare's face, and he abused Lucrezia regularly. Jealousy was only about fifth or sixth on the list.

Pretty much for the run of the entire series, they've been shooting Cesare and Lucrezia as far closer than you'd expect from siblings, though nothing's in Lannister territory just yet. I think this may also have been his jealousy that they're closer to each other than he is to either of them.

Rumors state that Giovanni was also believed to be the son of either Alexander or Cesare, but a lot of those rumors were cemented as fact by the popes who succeeded Alexander. History is written by the victors.

Thankfully nothing was made apparent, but given how much trouble he's been having with his member the last few episodes, I chalked it up to impotent rage.

I just realized: we haven't seen Gioffre all season.
