We went and saw Red Hot Patriot (a mostly one woman show about Molly Ivins) at the Zach Scott Theater. Well performed but 50 minutes of outrage in a 70 minute show gets tiresome. Though doing a play about Ivins without a lot of her outrage would be ludicrous.

You are echoing my opinion of the Rent characters, though the wife says that a big part of the initial appeal had to do with when it came out. I forget what, exactly. Supposedly we aren't supposed to like the all that much.

To be fair to Ms. Rosenberg, it there was simply no way, given the source material, to turn in a good script. To do that, she would have had to write a completely different story. And while plenty of screenwriters do just that, I consider it cheating, and it doesn't always work out for the better.

The efforts of the Feds to nopt get directly involved always seemed a bit contrived. But considering Iran, Iraq, Egypt, etc., maybe they were on to something.
