I would watch the series in order, but that's just me. The first season in particular deals with his relationship with his father, and gives some insight into the character. Also, I don't know how much fun this new season will be now that Wallander doesn't have Tom Hiddleston to kick around any more.

The cast of Thor 2 looks to be getting a little crowded, especially on the villain side. I hope it doesn't suffer the common sequel problem of "like the first one! But bigger! And with more people in it! That will make it better!"
