Agreed. But they did, and in doing so proved their value against those who amazingly still claim there's no significant difference between the parties.
Trump's approval ratings are horrible and he still hasn't gotten a piece of major legislation through.
Why did Trump win? Because he was entertaining. Like it or not, you have to fight back with better entertainment.

I'd say the show puts an emphasis on areas of actual learning over true trivia or useless knowledge. The breadth of information required that runs the gamut from the serious to the silly is what makes the game more than just a trivia contest.
There was some editing there, I figure that Trebek accepted it, then the judges stepped in to reverse it, they stopped tape and cut out Alex's acceptance, which is why the other players didn't get a chance at it.
