A candidate has to be serious to win?
Rule of thumb: If someone is asking questions that someone else doesn't want to answer, it's generally not the questioner who knocks the one being questioned to the ground.
Who is he with the malaprops, Archie Bunker? Does he also refer to Richard E. Nixon?
"Still, we can’t help but feel a little bad for ol’ Spicey, who every day seems a little bit more like the “Jerry from Parks And Recreation” of the Trump administration."
Conservatives are much more consistent at supporting GOP candidates than moderates or the left are for Democrats, which is a big reason Democrats tend to struggle in off-year elections.
Sitting out this election with the idea that Trump would lead to a leftward shift is a risk only a person in a position of privilege would be willing to take.
This is a prime example of why describing a show as "batshit crazy" is not a positive as some seem to think it is.
The solution is to try and work for change within a major party, as right-wingers have done very successfully with the GOP.
I will peddle my causes to the best of my ability, then vote for the major party candidate that most closely aligns to those causes.
Great question, I was wondering that myself.
In America, that's just the way it is. After the primaries, there are two candidates who can win. Voting third-party or not voting means you don't think there's a measurable difference, you don't know enough to make a choice or you just don't care.
In a two-party system, you have two choices. You choose the better one. It's that simple.
There's also no political downside to it, because the GOP base will vote for them no matter what, even if they're suffering as a result of their proposals.
That's showbiz: Taking a brilliantly funny person and paying him a lot more money to be much less funny.
I will cut some slack to those who didn't vote because GOP laws made it nearly impossible for them to do so.
Rather than hear Colbert say “I know this is an unpopular opinion these days, but I believe children should go to the doctor and eat", I still think it's more humorous and effective for him to defend why children shouldn't go to the doctor and eat in the voice of a right-wing pundit.
I think of it as high-tech hitchhiking.
