To clarify my last post, I did expect an answer to what the island is, and I think we got it last night. I just expected that the answer would still be opaque. All the talk about the sublime, or the unknown, is correct. We won't see a further explanation of what the glowing cave is because it represents origin of…
" I can see how you could consider that a non-answer, but it's the only answer this show could give. LOST is a post-modern myth, and all myths come down to the sublime. The glowy cave is just a freaking symbol."
I really liked the episode. I think it's Lost's Rosetta Stone that'll make rewatching the series very interesting.
Yeah, I would think they'd all be jokes. You wouldn't think they'd want to immediately subvert the ending they chose to go with.
Well, parts of Ummagumma.
Meddle and Ummagumma by Floyd, for sure.
Everybody Loves A Clown… Sugar Shack… I could go on and on.
How about a little Gordon Lightfoot?
Now that you mention it, I'm surprised no one has done "Crying" on Idol. It's the perfect song: dramatic, relatively well-known and ends with a big "show-off" note.
#1 sign Idol didn't have enough material…
… to fill the show. Harry Connick's 5-minute, not-really interesting story about the first time he met Frank Sinatra. That dude likes to talk.

Don't forget it also launched Alyssa Milano into a long line of relationships with major league pitchers.
I'll stick to complaining about the lack of originality in AV Club posts.
Last show: Jim and Pam get news that Jim has inherited his great uncle's bed and breakfast in Maine. They debate whether to leave DM to run it.

I saw the first one
Eight times in the theatre.
Alicia Keys
I'm not the best judge of singing performances, but she bad last night. It felt like she would end and the judges would rip her apart ("I still like you, but that wasn't good, Dawg.")
