Like you said, I think that shows the effectiveness of his performance, but I definitely don't blame anyone for wanting to steer clear. It is one of those "I need to get the grime off my brain afterward" performances.

The only thing I hated about that ending is that it's never acknowledged again. I remember when it first aired, I got all excited, thinking "now THIS could be a great character arc." Oh well.
