I think a large part of it is that Jimmy can't resist showing Chuck how talented he is at being Slippin' Jimmy. That he has some skills Chuck couldn't have even if he wanted to.

Accurately describing how the comics portrayed a larger-than-life and memorable character, and being excited to see that character portrayed on screen, isn't really hyping it up. It's just genuine interest and an accurate description.
