Now I'm mildly curious if the tooty-toot Williamsburg you're referring to is the one in Brooklyn or the colonial one in Virginia, because the comment works either way.

That is genuinely interesting.

Not just that, but the Aiel are very, very similar to the Fremen.

Sure you can follow the medieval model, but I think the worry is more along the lines of experimentation with the occult a la Jack Parsons:

I take it you've never been to a Pentecostal church. But even for churches that aren't too big on the everyday miraculous, the existence of demons and actual power in witchcraft (like the Witch of Endor, who was consulted by Solomon) is basically scriptural. If you believe the Bible is true, you believe that stuff is

I never read Jesus Freaks (though I was aware of it), but mostly assumed it was in the grand tradition of Foxe's Book of Martyrs which initially seems to be about people who love Jesus so much they're willing to die for him but secretly turns out to be about the horrible things Catholics did to Protestants during the

Well, that just leads to more questions. Metal gloves that appear to be seamless and yet are infinitely articulated?

The best thing about these jokes is that it is completely plausible that the Deadpool sequels will use one of them.

Batman: The Riddler's maze is no match for my genius! These lethal obstacles are pitifully easy to escape!

It's really a shame, because everyone loves his hans on approach.

Maybe it's just me, but when something is described as "epic, exotic" I automatically smoosh that into "quixotic."

Articles like this are why I stick around.

Oh, they'll add the leprosy in post.

I don't think it's contradictory to want local control and yet also want free money. Schools are underfunded as it is, so I can see how many state leaders feel like they can make better decisions than the federal government about how the money is spent, but simply can't afford to do without the extra dollars.
