I didn't even notice the countdown the first time - I did see a bunch of numbers pop up, but most of them were in some sort of context. So I didn't see a gimmick, I saw a powerful moment.

They were really following the "tell, don't show" tendency that a lot of shows have for strong female characters. She went on and on about how capable she was, but in the end she wandered into a bunch of situations she was ill-equipped to handle, and needed to be rescued by either dumb luck or someone who IS strong…
