I think it's a continuity thing because Michael was really adamant about defending her at dinner. If he really wanted to defuse the situation, he would have told them about what he did. Especially because they were being incredibly nasty and awful towards Jane.

Yes! She may have been having feelings for Raf but she dumped Michael because he lied to her. He was totally willing to give Mateo over to Petra even though he knew she was kind of shady. This seemed like really bad continuity on a show that's usually pretty good about it.
