It's definitely been regarded as a classic of the 80's for some time. The idea that no one regarded it as a classic movie before the remake is completely false.

The fact the people can view seeing a blockbuster remake that they aren't even interested in, starring millionaires, as an act of defiant activism, blows my mind.

I really have tried hard to like this, but I think they've lost me at this point. I don't really care about making changes to the story, or the sanctity of the characters, but there has to be something worthwhile to take its place. This kind of seems like they're playing madlibs with the characters from the comic.
