6mos ago I wasn't reading any comics and since then I've tried my hand at a number of different things with varying results—most of them through recommendations of the AVClub/commenters.  Manhattan Projects has been great and Prophet has been awesome but I really don't get everybody's love for this.  Art is fantastic

You ever see the 'Kurt and Courtney' doc where Courtney's old boyfriend/friend is reading from a scrap of paper she had left behind when he knew her about things she wanted to do with her life?  I can't remember everything but one of them was to meet Michael Stipe and a few other things that were very superficial and

In all fairness though, George went back and messed up the thing that gave him a lifetime pass.

The big takeaway I have from Saving Private Ryan is the initial sequence of the men being shuttled towards the beach in the boats.  Hearing the motors shut off and knowing a full scale slaughter was imminent is one of the scariest moments I've ever seen in a movie.  I remember each episode of "Band of Brothers" having

Both of those from 'A Supposedly Fun..' are excellent.  I've got a special place in my heart for his recounting of the adult video awards in Vegas that's in 'Consider the Lobster.'  Kinda weird place to start because he does it under pseudonyms but the topic is fascinating.  If you're a David Lynch fan he has an essay

I can't watch the beginning/most of the end of this movie again but the director's cut on DVD adds some welcome monster fights.  The time they spend on Skull Island is pretty awesome.

David Sirota's 'Back to our Future' devoted a chapter to the Cosby Show.  I can't fully remember the details but he got on their case for rarely addressing race and I think he said Cosby didn't really want to get into the issue.  NBC's program attracted a wide audience and I assume saddling the show with weighty race
