I don't skip "Kennel District," actually. Some of Kannberg's Pavement songs work as nice palate cleansers.

Well, I was a fan of Mel's song
Other than "Carol Brown," the only second-season song I really liked (or at least that I remember I liked, which I guess is the same thing) was Mel's "Like In My Dreams."
Yeah, I love this sound — so exotic and happy. Makes me wish I could just go to Africa, throw a net over it, and bring it back to America for all to enjoy!
Did Preston School Of Industry and Kannberg's "skip me" Pavement tracks really get your hopes up?
Hodgkins! What's to get wrong?
Watch Terry O'Quinn when he's delivering his "What I sell is the American dream" backyard-party speech, specifically the way he gets choked up saying, "When I came here, I was a stranger, but I've never felt more at home anywhere in my life," and then finds himself at a loss for words. …
I've read most of what there is to read about "Army of Shadows," a movie I've studiously viewed numerous times since its resurrection, but until now I kept thinking "Army of Darkness" whenever I looked at the list of upcoming NCC films. I really need to get more sleep or more caffeine.
Changed my mind
(Just posted this as a response to a Salon article, and I'm posting it here too because I'm lazy and because I'm surprised at my about-face on the issue.)
It keeps shit fresh.
Well, that's a "fresher." I'm going on break.
Busy Philipps is a cougar?
Fuck, I feel old.
It's a terrific idea — I've been waiting a long time for "Urgh!," "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark," "Bad Ronald," and "Carny" to become available on DVD, and there's a bunch of other cool stuff in the Warner Archives that I've never heard of.
Le Fils
I'm not a religious person, least of all a Christian, but I think "The Son" could be considered one of the most striking "Christian" film ever made — it's the kind of movie that really should top something like the Vatican Film List. I wish I knew more people who'd seen it (or most any movie by the Dardennes,…
I scrolled past the whole thing without reading it, further propelled by noticing the word *cinema* in quotes, and the all-caps proclamations about art.
One of my favorite things ever from SNL, and one of the first things I thought of when I saw the subject of this article. I may be mistaken, but I think Conan O'Brien wrote that "Old Glory" commercial. And I may be even more mistaken, but I think that robot has been used as Conan's "Robot on a Toilet" and perhaps in…
If you are sad and like beer, I'm your lady.
My previous job, I worked with a guy who was as big a hipster dou— that is to say, he was as big a pop-culture enthusiast as I am, and we were both pretty gay for Guy Maddin. In fact, our Maddin video collections perfectly complemented each other — he had all the films I…
S&RB: It's terrific to know that I can always be counted on for a mawkish, depressing, inappropriately personal anecdote. My wife, on the other hand, is evidently the go-to person for more fun forms of communication, and she has none of the aforementioned concerns. [winking smiley]
S&RB, I was going to say that you've always been one of my favorite commenters, male or female, and that I have a big crush on you, but I didn't want to sound creepy. Also, I'm married, and I wouldn't want to disrespect my wife.
Wait, Elitist Trash … Bill Nighy or Bill Nye the Science Guy? Because I can sort of see both.
Former child actor or not, Haley's definitely got that "seething reptile" quality down nowadays, so the casting makes sense to me.
Dude, Purim starts next Monday night. I'll help myself to some hamantashen, though. I like the prune lekvar or the apricot.
I agree that Kidder and Teri Garr have given two of the best interviews I've ever read here. I can't get enough of stories like these, from smart, no-bullshit women who have known and worked with so many other incredible people.
