I can agree that there might be information that we don't know that could redeem him, but that doesn't mean we ignore the evidence in front of our eyes. The only reason we meet Tracey is he's scamming the people who saved his life in the war to implicate them in his criminal activities. Then, when he gets figured out,

I wouldn't call Tracey beloved even a little bit.

I think that's an interesting take, but it's very understated in the episode. A lot of the performance hinges on Tracey's Charisma. I stated below how Mal does bad things but we like him, the same holds true for Jayne because they're charismatic and have good lines. The difference is if Jayne died, we the audience

The former is more inherently funny. The latter requires specific context.

Exactly. It didn't even occur to me that they might be going for a "life of a veteran" thing until you just now said it. Camaraderie, I get, but broken from the horrors of war, this aint.

"Aw, man… That was a rental!"

I've stated my feelings on Tracey pretty clearly up above, but I simply cannot muster up sympathy for him. Selfishness isn't a disease you're afflicted with, it's a trait shared by bad people.

That reminds me of the Fillion gag on Castle where he tries to slap that one cop in the face.

Right. With Mal, there's definately a sense that he's not a great human being, (he did kick that one handcuffed guy into the engines) but Nathan Fillion is charismatic enough to carry us through and root for him pretty much no matter what. I know folks seem to like this Woodward fella, but Fillion he aint.

I think you're right about super organs, but I don't think the episode ever went in depth into the particulars of where Tracey's original organs went.

You know, that's a good point. One thing that's touched on, but never really explored in this episode is the obligation we can feel sometimes to old friends, no matter how incredibly fucking stupid they are. It's been awhile since I've seen the episode, but I feel like it isn't until the gun is pulled that Mal
