I didn't think it was a knock, necessarily. He was just observing that her performance was dull but proficient. That's what the live singers have to do on those shows. Even when those dancing shows have special guest singers, they're still relegated to the background.

@ aqualad: agreed. I usually get some laughs from the Simpsons, so I have a hard time understanding all the hate, but there are also still many, many episodes of the "bad" years I haven't seen. If they're like this one was, I may have to rethink my apologist stance.
