Another SNL trope to either reconsider or retire: a group of people have gathered to chit chat, either on a talk show or in a social setting, and there's one nervous weirdo who doesn't fit in and kind of derails the conversation. Emma Stone did it brilliantly on her last show, in a sketch that was both funny and

I understand that a "TV hour" is really forty-some minutes of content. When I said SNL should be maybe be trimmed by half an hour, I meant half an hour of total television time, including commercials, not of total content. So, yes, I guess I meant that SNL should really be about 42 minutes of comedy and 18 minutes of

Also: the switch from Fred's Obama to Jay's Obama was treated as a big deal in the media, and yet Jay has barely been a factor in the 2012 election. There are better Barack imitators out there, to be sure, but Jay's isn't so bad that it should be hidden away. I don't get it. They traded a hapless Obama for an adequate

Should SNL maybe be a 60-minute show instead of 90? I think they could have gotten an A- hour out of this instead of a B hour-and-a half. Pretty much everything you reported was true. I would have kept: cold open, monologue, "Lincoln," bar makeout, hotel checkout, some of "Update," and maybe just one song by Fun.

Every time I see this headline, my brain interprets it as "Showbiz Pizza announces winter world tour," and I get all excited. Then I reread it and get disappointed. This has happened at least five times.

Quick retort: I disagree with this review but understand it. "Dark Charlie" wasn't where I wanted the story to go, but it was a genuine surprise, and the ending brought back the Charlie we thought we knew. Also there was plenty of fun stuff along the way. I was laughing all through it. Maybe it's because I haven't

Noel: What would you say to someone who's just excited that there IS a movie about Graham Chapman, good, bad, or indifferent? I mean, I love a lot of his work and admire aspects of his life, so I'd be right there in the target audience for this film. I've been looking forward to it, in fact. It seems probable that

Surprised by the lack of love for Jackie Brown. I know it's not everybody's thing, but I expected some affection for it. It would have made my list.
