I know I came off sarcastic a couple times, but I hope I wasn't a total dick. I get fairly excited about other peoples' canon. This is why, first, I took the tack I did (and Noel's right - no offense, but I've read complaints like yours a few times before, and they always seem puzzling to me, because the AV Club has

You say "but not only have I never heard of the band, I've never heard of any of the bands they're being compared to, and I'm starting to wonder if some of the band names are just fabrications," but yet you're also connected to the internet.

Not to say you're alone, but this is Simple Minds here, not, I dunno, the Embarrassment or something. And the Club has stated that this isn't a straight canonization, but more of a roll call of underappreciated, well-crafted albums. The stuff I know the least about have tended to be alt/indie and Midwest punk records

Leslie is a callow fame-seeker, while Tim and Eric have always given me the vibes of kids who were too homeschooled for our good. The best of Tom Goes to the Mayor stacks up with any black comedy I've seen or heard in any medium. "Spray a Carpet or Rug" was a pitch-perfect descent into futility,

And how about
Some blow, while you're at it?

I bought this record a few months later. Some days, my favorite is "What Do You Want the Girl To Do" - just barely on the right side of AM fluff, but poignantly making the most of Toussaint's comparatively limited vocal range.

Thanks, friend.

"Finally"?
Who in your office has been waiting his or her whole life for a grape/apple/corn syrup hybrid?

I miss Stylus. I miss writing for it, specifically. But yeah… before I ever got involved with them, I admired their passion for re-evaluation, and for generally eschewing kingmaking in favor of passionately-defended individual viewpoints. I don't know who else would have let me scream the merits of Brutal

will someone please think about the cavemen!
