I have noticed in conversations with other Hannibal fans that my response to Hannibal/Will is informed by the fact that I don't watch any of the other shows that feature a male duo that people ship. So for me nothing about the way the show treated Hannibal and Will was part of some overarching trend; I was just…
Six Feet Under is probably the best. I recently told someone I was made more hysterical by Mizumono than any other episode of television ever, but that may have been my recency bias talking. I was destroyed by the Six Feet Under finale.
I don't know, I don't really see it that way. If anything I think Fuller was very resistant to the idea of the relationship as a romance when the text had been screaming that idea for a while. But I actually like the ambiguity of the relationship and don't have any real complaints about how it was portrayed. Though I…
Hannibal and Mad Men are the only so-called golden age shows in the absolute upper tier for me. Breaking Bad was extremely accomplished and gripping, but I will never watch it again. Ditto for The Sopranos. Just ultimately not my cup of tea, or glass of rye.
It's the cannibalism/gore. I've talked to many "sophisticated" TV viewers about it and they hesitate, express guarded, almost wistful interest, but ultimately say nope, it's a no-go for them.
I really do wish I could upvote this 20 times. I have been laughing about it all day.
How can you even ask this question when Mads just gave us this?!?!
does Gillian Anderson have manhands?
Does Bedelia even know how to properly cook a leg?
I adore her and am much more fond of Bedelia than you are. Me finding many aspects of Hannibal ludicrous has never hampered my enjoyment of it, in fact it often enhances it!
Aw, you're nice too.
My only hypothesis, based in part on someone from the show saying season 4 would be an inversion of season 1, is that somehow Will starts controlling Hannibal. Not sure that's remotely plausible though.
It is frustrating because I feel like ambiguity is an essential aspect of the show. It's not a puzzle to be solved definitively, it's just meant to be experienced.
I see your point, but I don't mind that Bryan blathers so much about the show, it's part of what makes the whole Hannibal experience unique for me. I mean, I stopped taking everything he says as gospel when he was still pushing the whole platonic thing after they planned to essentially elope.
In fairness to Fuller, the other interpretation hadn't even occurred to him, but he loved it.
It really is hard to imagine where they could go from here. But I'd still like to see them try.
When it started I was like uh oh you guys I don't know about this. I ended up loving it about as much as anything this show has ever done.
It's not too antagonistic at all! I'm throughly enjoying both agreeing and disagreeing with you.
My description of Romeo and Juliet has always been "it's about two teenagers too stupid to realize they would have lost interest in each other in a few months."
