Except his next movie was The Martian, which I thought was pretty terrific. Maybe not Best Comedy or Musical terrific, but it's a good movie at least.

I'd argue the luckiest hack is Stephen Daldry. Billy Elliot was pretty good (though the musical is better), but after that came the well-acted but boring The Hours, followed by Illiterate Naked Nazi, er, The Reader, and Extremely Bad & Incredibly A Best Picture Nominee. Next up for him is ruining the movie version

The Artist is exactly what I think of when I think about recent overrated movies.

I'm always a little weirded out to remember that Fran Kranz is a good actor because he was so convincing as a really bad actor in Jake Kasdin's The TV Set 10 years ago.

You're probably right about Maya & Marty being toast, but I could see if coming back next summer if both Maya & Marty are game. It's cheap to produce, and at least has the potential to produce viral videos during the long months until SNL returns.

Lowe does have a pretty good track record of joining existing shows (Brothers & Sisters, Parks & Recreation). It's only the shows that are his star vehicles from the get-go (The Lyon's Den, Dr. Vegas, The Grinder) that tend to flop (unless, of course, they're set in the White House). Lowe's presence will probably

I think Jeb! wanted the job…it just never occurred to Jeb! that he actually would have to fight for the nomination until it was too late.

This is it (this is it), the show, the one we get, so should I watch them all?

Best: Friday Night Lights
Worst: Dallas (original run)

As I recall, I came across The Dictionary of Misinformation in my middle school library and greatly enjoyed it. I was an insufferable enough kid that I happily went around for weeks correcting everyone's misconceptions. I swear, I don't know how I didn't get beat up every day…

A 5th officer has died. Also, the person of interest that DPD posted a pic of on Twitter that later turned himself in has been released. He was carrying a rifle, since open carry is perfectly legal here in Texas, but apparently had nothing to do with the shootings.

I live in Dallas. I am utterly devastated by tonight. A few updates from here a little after 1:45 am Central Daylight Time:

I've always said that Godfather III is a solid mob movie that would have a better reputation if it wasn't following two of the greatest films in history. That said, Coppola should have cast just about anyone except his daughter as Mary, and really should have ponied up to get Duvall back. Have Duvall play Tom, and

I could have sworn that the original Tales of the City was made in the late 90s/early 00s, but nope, 1993, which makes since because Laura Linney was still pretty much unknown when it premiered. 1993-1994 was the first season of NYPD Blue, which raised such a ruckus about its onscreen nudity that I'm guessing that

The Catch and The Real O'Neals got decent-to-good reviews and have growth potential. Uncle Buck got lousy reviews across the board, and I'm guessing that ABC figured that they squeezed all they could out of a sitcom based on a mildly remembered 27-year-old movie.

Trump actually praised Saddam Hussein? The one consistent, from both people who whole-heartily supported the war and those that were opposed, is that Saddam was utterly despicable. I opposed the war from beginning (and unlike Trump, I really did think it was a bad idea from the start), and I agree that Iraq would

I was an undergraduate at the Fleakicker game. I was debating whether I should join the rest of the student body in storming the field when the everyone relized the refs had actually signaled a TD.

I actually watched that at my parents' (I saw fireworks in person last night), and was wondering how come the weather conditions seemed to improve so dramatically so quickly.

Re: My Mother the Car: I'm still trying to figure out how they managed to squeeze 30 episodes out of a premise that seems to be a better fit for a 5 minutes SNL sketch.
