CNN might cover it if it happens, (since it is a "news" network), but I'm guessing there will be plenty of other camera angles for the other networks broadcasting from Times Square that they don't have to show the protesters unless they prove to be a major disruption.

CBS used to air "Happy New Year, America" until the mid-90s. I remember their musical guests were a lot less hip than Dick Clark's, but then again, since it was CBS, the show was probably trying to appeal to older audiences that weren't going out that night. Actually, Cop Rock itself followed another musical show, Hull High, which premiered a month earlier. Since the premise of singing, dancing high school kids is somewhat less ridiculous than the premise of singing, dancing cops, Hull High has largely been forgotten.

I'm even more amazed that CBS has arguably the biggest female star in movies today starring in one of its sitcoms and the network can't seem to figure out what to do with her show.
