Oh I would definitely start from the pilot. I started watching Parks And Rec from day 1, and was able to stick it out until it got to be amazing, so I'm sure a few below-par early episodes won't turn me off…especially with how much I've enjoyed what I've seen so far.

I definitely agree that the humor there was uncomfortably dark at times, and I'm sure it would be much more difficult to laugh at had I experienced what you described. What saved it, and made it funny for me, was that they were so clearly directing their scorn at the idea of 'praying away the gay', how awful those…
