No, I saw it too. I also thought that was part of the reason why Kirsten was slightly older - to lessen the eventual age divide between Travis and Laurie. I do think the show is going to go there at some point.

That also led to a callback of Grayson being welcomed Japanese-style, too. This episode was great for gag continuity actually.
I also thought my DVR had missed a bit, or perhaps even a whole episode. Luckily they mentioned Kylie, otherwise I would have been going "BUT WEREN'T THEY STILL TOGETHER" all episode. ALL EPISODE!
Song at the end
I know the A.V. Club thinks there's too much music in Cougar Town, but I really liked that last song. Anybody knows what it was?
A previously on for jokes? That would take all the funny out of it without really allowing people to laugh at them more once they're actually in the episode.
Also, Shirley has violent tendencies. That jukebox story from the pilot was way too specific.
Yes. Even the first few episodes are funny, IMO, although the focus on the cougar part is a little weird.
Leo is a welcome addition
I thought this was better than the pilot, especially in the second half. Leo adds some light tension between the two leads which brings a little bit of funny. Nice to see Hoyt not being a total dweeb, too. Admittedly, he mission was pretty boring. But this show is so pretty, I could watch it…
"And really, Samantha's body seems to be the only thing the show wants to show us for her skill set and that's not okay with me."
Uh, she was actually the one who saved the day in both episodes? First by chasing down the bad guy and then by stopping the bomb. I'd say she's doing just fine in the skills department.
For what it's worth I only saw the pilot and really liked it, but didn't go all "WELL WHAT HAPPENS NEXT". I was curious but I enjoyed it for what it was? Many critics seemed to say that this was more of a movie than a TV show anyway. I say watch it.
Thank god somebody else notices how awful Artie is. Since the premiere he's been sexist (expecting Tina to like him again when he gets abs, because clearly, that's all she could possibly care about instead of you know, how he treats her), racist (what about that Asian summer camp fantasy of his? Kinda funny maybe but…
It's always more frustrating when Terri shows up and she could actually be awesome - we all know Will's car was a bad idea, and wasn't going to make him "happy" or "more relaxed" or whatever the theme of this episode was. Why couldn't she tell him that? Something along the lines of how he should stay himself and…
Or maybe the baby was born?
I thought Marshall was in the wedding party too, which would make zero sense if it's Cindy's wedding. Even Lily seemed a little wedding-party-like, so I'd bet on Barney and Robin too, even if it's a little weird for them to have a church wedding. I wonder how they'll explain that one.
If you say Cavendish is born in the 1970s and is at least 60, then the story happens around 2030. The first page mentions 1983 Chablis. That seems like a really long time for wine, but what do I know. I like the idea that reincarnation doesn't have to respect linearity so much, though.
Going up and down is mentioned a lot in Somni's story when she has trouble climbing stairs. Frobisher flies down his hotel room in the beginning then… goes up to the tower a lot? I did feel that a lot of story dealt with the "up/down" theme but I'm not sure if it's enough to call a motif.
I agree with Mike. I admit I don't see why Luisa is more fictional than the others just because she ends up being a script in the next story. On the contrary, she has more ties to the other stories than the rest (Sixsmith, Frobisher's Sextet, the Prophetess, Somni deja-vuing the drowning), I feel, which makes the idea…
Funny you mention islands, because this sentence of Frobisher's was one of my favorites: "Take this island, midstream between timbre and rhythm, not down in any book of theory, but it's here!"
I just finished the second part of Somni, too. I'll be running to catch up in time for the chat.
A list! I can do that.
Thanks for the delay!
Jesus Christ, this is not an easy book to start with. I'm not a native speaker (though the French parts were much appreciated!) and the vocabulary made me realize I've pretty much only read chick lit and YA fantasy in English. Keeping the dictionary by my side would be just a bit too much of a…
