In 2002, the French had the choice between voting for a crook or an actual, honest-to-god fascist as president - and they still managed not to fuck it up.

This is complete bunk. A no-fly zone could only have been imposed by the Security Council, ergo with Russia's consent. And even if the USA decided to side-step the UN, there's no way that the Western allies were going to impose a no-fly zone without Russia - never mind start shooting down Russian planes.
It's funny you say "less shamefully the second", as I actually feel that Dragon Age II - horrifically compressed production accepted - is the best of the series.
I'm sorry, but I really detest the phrase "Oscar bait", which mostly translates as "critically-acclaimed studio films that I personally dislike".
The 'conceived by a child' thing is probably just a marketing contrivance, which conveniently lets all the adults off the hook for their hand in this debacle.
Dear God. Is this the face of Internet grade inflation when a "solid", "not bad" film gets the second-highest score possible?
I wouldn't even describe Rowling as super-left liberal. Her liberalism is basically of the 'treat everyone with respect' variety, which most people would describe as basic human decency.
I don't think having different political opinions to you is "losing the plot", unless you think 55% of the Scottish electorate is insane, as well.
This review is at least understandable in hindsight.
Well, you said it…
Basically, you could probably find someone on the AV Club willing to go to bat for an obscure Mosotho electric K-pop band that only five people have ever heard of, but you'd be hard pressed to find people who defend musical theatre.
But what does that mean, really?
I know this is an American pop culture website, but this list did appear rather irritatingly Americocentric. The Departed gets tipped over Internal Affairs 'cause Scorsese, The Ring over Ringu even though the very clip cited to justify this shows that the latter exercised more restraint than the former (and was all…
Those opening paragraphs read very much like a hungover, sleep-deprived English lit student desperately trying to pad out an undergrad essay five minutes before the deadline. They're wholly unnecessary, they make sweeping and unsupported claims about the entire history of literature, and they presuppose that not a…
Modern Russian literature may not have penetrated Western society, but Russia has buckets of cultural soft power. In Ukraine prior to the invasion, eastern Ukrainians got as much - if not more - of their news from Russian channels as national ones, not to mention their dramas and soap operas. Even in the West, RT has…
Sarah Brightman - "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper"
Really?
This is depressingly close to reality.
Really? Because I'll go to bat for most of Shyamalan's back catalogue - even The Village - but he has been on a real dog-shit streak recently (I've not seen the The Visit, so I'll except that) and this film looks thoroughly ridiculous, from its Victorian understanding of mental health to its egregious overuse of scare…
Absolutely agree. My boyfriend has epilepsy and he's always trying to avoid triggers, but I think he should just stop being such a defeatist loser and take those fits on the chin.
