Time Travel
One of the things I always liked about Moffett's writing is that he seems to enjoy playing with time travel more. This is really obvious in Blink and The Girl in the Fireplace, but I enjoyed the use of it here. Having The Doctor being inconsistent with the TARDIS and making his one day last several years

Inspiration
Robert B. Parker was a big inspiration to so many of the mystery writers today, especially those who write PI stories. With the deaths of Donald Westlake and Stuart Kaminsky within the past few years there are only a few writers left who are true legends of the genre. That is sobering.

Authors
This is a sad day for authors. Robert B. Parker, author of the Spenser novels, died today as well.

Mysteries
I always enjoy the A.V.'s coverage of books, but I'm disappointed by the lack of genre picks on these lists and on the typical review coverage. (Don't try to count Pynchon. Pynchon doing mystery is still Pynchon.) 2009 was a great year for mysteries. Some of the best I read this year:
