Okay, Thomas, I'll concede some ground; you make some good points. But I stand by my dismissal of Dr. Miller's "Pond's cream" analysis. Go through the episode: Peggy and Don take one approach, independently agreeing (and they're good at this, as the show keeps reminding us): Freddy Rumsen and Dr. Miller agree on

For goodness' sake, you're just crossing the street to gratuitously pick on the Megan storyline. She photographs well when shot with a movie camera; he's an ad man; that's it. You know that John Travolta, Dustin Hoffman, Tobey Maguire, Jodie Foster all started in commercials, right? The line between the qualifications

I actually come down on your side. I'm just pointing out that first seasons tend to be "automatically" considered "the best" for the reasons I gave.

You mean "hanged" over this entire episode damn it

It may have been as simple as ensuring that the audience understands that this is directly above the old office, forcing you (along with the reverse wide shot)  to see the columns, the external view etc. and recognize the space as identical to the SCDP "lounge" area we've come to know.

Great point. This discussion board's better than an English class! (I mean, in high school or college, where you discuss books.)

Also, don't forget Thor on top of the Chrysler building in The Avengers.

Absolutely fantastic. Brilliant catch.

With the new firm and a divorced Don who can't pick up women, Season 4 was notable in conspicuously re-casting the basic mold of the show. And for a series that (forgive me) has "time" as its main subject, that was a pretty bold and satisfying move.

Yeah, but calling Season 1 "the best" is de rigueur, isn't it? Whether it's Star Trek, Lost, The Sopranos, The Wire, Saturday Night Live…with anything really good, the first season is always the conspicuously miraculous achievement that allows for (and paves the way for) everything that follows.
