I don't get the disdain in the article.  The show wasn't nearly as mean spirited as alleged,  The family was unambiguously TRYING to do the right thing, and the juxtaposition of intent and result was often amusing.  Not the most brilliant show ever, but amusing enough for the duration of its run.
