The ER doctors on Friends were the actors from ER [Clooney and Wyle] playing different ER doctors in a NY hospital [as opposed to ER's Chicago County General]. More of a 'wink & nod' than a crossover.  The doctors even had different character names [Rosen and Mitchell vs Carter and Ross].

I honestly felt sad for Ed.  Know he's a talented guy, but you could tell he walked in, was told 'OK, you're a guy with strong opinions that change at the first refutation, I'tll be hilarious, and GO!!'
