I like Falling Down, but I don't empathize with the lead at all. He's painted as far worse than everyone he insults/kills. Not saying it's a good movie, because the Robert Duvall stuff is fucking terrible, but I wouldn't say it is morally misguided. And Michael Douglas gives a pretty great performance— it's one of

Surprised Before Sunrise didn't show up on the main list or these outliers. Not sure how it stacks up with Linklater's other films (I've only seen that and Sunset), but that would be in my top 10 of the 90s. It is admittedly more low-concept than anything else mentioned here, but it just hits all the right emotional

I remember one critic saying that American Beauty is the kind of movie made for people to feel more tolerant than they actually are. I really agree with this— it's a well-made movie from almost every technical standpoint, and I love the story, but after re-watching it recently the over-the-top portrait/critique of

I thought the first act was fine, but by the end I was actually zoning out because it was so sloppy. This show is just suffocating, speeding so fast through the shitty plots/throwaway lines that all the character moments feel rushed and awkward. I might stick around a few more weeks, because I see potential if the

Started a rewatch of that fucked up show— it really doesn't have any parallels. Even for Adult Swim, it baffles me how such a low-budget, low-concept, slow-paced, absurdly nihilistic show made it on-air. I'm kinda more interested to see them pitch it to the network than the creative process, which is … a bit more

Parker Posey's turn as Liz these two episodes makes me want to rewatch both Party Girl and Broken English. She's such a great actor, and yet there's a certain quality to her that I can rely on from anything she's in. Really hope her character returns, even though it's likely she won't.

I don't think it was a simple idea that he was communicating, but I agree that it went on too long. And most of the great reality-stretching scenes are more visual in nature, so I don't think he was going for that.

I really liked learning more about Adam's character. He's still a douchebag but it's getting easier to see why Hannah likes him (at least during certain scenes, e.g. during the play rehearsal/workshop thing). I kinda want the show to go full circle and have us actively root for him.
