I said "did not expect it to be as dark as it was". There are PG and even G rated films that have some shadings of darkness in it. I can't imagine anyone that saw Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13" for the first time expected a 12-year old girl to get shot point blank in the chest. Although they probably expected

So an R rating gives away story and tone? Films are rated that way on the basis of language or nudity/sexual content. And you assume knowledge of this film implies knowledge of all Del Toro's output?

Perhaps you didn't (cause you're awesome that way), but nearly everyone else that I've discussed this film with did not expect it to be as dark as it was. Many aren't aware of how dark the original fairy tales are, and were expecting a Disney-like film filled with fascination and wonder.

As I am not a teenage girl - nor someone seeking gratification in my life by forcing all the trivial minutiae of it on everyone I know - I don't give a damn.

God, you're still alive and posting here????
AAAARRRGGGHGHHHHH!!!!

Hell, It's in my personal list of top 10 movies of all time.

I saw this movie first run in theater, so I was young and there were several jokes that went over my head. One that I did not get until later was when Professor Little-Old-Man sneezes in his hands and then says, "Oh. I blew too soon.". I did not get the sexual innuendo in that job until much later. Love this film.

"It is ultimately del Toro’s own disobedience from fulfilling audience’s narrative expectations that Pan’s Labyrinth is able to to set itself apart from fairy tales that came before it." Exactly this. I have rarely been as awestruck as my first viewing of this film. It is one of the few films that can still bring me

I asked my (then) wife after we saw 5th in theater if she would indulge me and wear something akin to that white-strap get-up. She politely demurred, but did do something not to different with a long black scarf she had.

Vinyl record?

Take that, bitches!!!

As she should be.

I want to see Gillian Anderson in a "I Want To Believe" t-shirt. Or out of one.
That's all I have to say.

Since her and I are not dating, no she is not.

Jennings biggest payout was around $75K - not a bad day. I believe it was that NY cop from several years back that had $85K.

Hell, I watch that pile of crap The Patriot just for him.

Riding on the Love Boat is what got him where he is today!

Yes.

Maybe.

Yes, I had to sing the answer to that one.
