I love the record: bought it on vinyl, on tape, and cd. But I can't put it above Marquee Moon.
The song I listen to the most is Walking on the Water, the cover of an old CCR tune.

I think it was a mishear on your part. I liked the gospel feel and looked it up online.

Smokie or Smokey
I Need You Now is by Smokie Norful, not Smokey Robinson — and I just learned that tonight!
I liked most of the picks, and really enjoyed seeing Clint and Jordan rejected twice. I thought Ashthon, especially, was given the Wild Card for "her body of work" rather than the weak version of And I Am

Jordan's Debacle
I disliked Jordan from group night, and wanted him to be taken down a peg, but he might have blown it all with his lousy performance tonight. I put Jordan, Tim, and Robbie in the bottom three.
I thought James and Jacob put on the best performances, and I haven't liked either one before tonight.

Karla Ha Ha has it exactly right.

And someone on the first page brought up Here Come the Warm Jets, and I may have been converted. "We're on our own / and there's no place to pee…"

Nice!!

I love the solo on Five Days in May, Jorge. That whole album is great.

ZMF likes American Coney. Detroit likes ZMF. Welcome to Detroit, seriously. And that certainly ain't Royal Oak — looks like 1300 Lafayette.

Have been for a while, Juanito. Haven't you heard my prayers????

sojer! Sorrentino's Mulligan Stew is fantastic — any AVC readers interested in post-modernism, wild parodies, and the color blue NEED to check it out.

Very sorry, Superdeformed. I wish you better in the new year.

Andy's sax and oboe playing really gave them shadings other rock bands couldn't approach. My favorite is If There Is Something off their debut.

I love Terry Callier too. Fits in well, I think, with Tim Buckley's funk period and Gil Scott-Heron's Pieces of a Man period. To these Detroit ears, anyway… they're all on the same jukebox in the Cass Corridor bar I like the best. Kind of surprised, by the way, that you don't like Buckley…

I'm still laughing 5 minutes later, Boutros!

Well Written
I think this needs to be said: well written, Scott. I'll be using this piece in a few weeks for my HS classes. Nicely done.

When You Rock and Roll With Me was the best performance of Bowie's Michigan Palace shows before the lousy David Live album came out. I didn't care much for the song before that night, but he convinced me.

Nevernewt: doesn't the song listing have "some vu, white light white heat returned" on it after listing Queen Bitch? I think you're stretching it to claim a stronger link to the Stones. Rebel Rebel, ok; Watch That Man, ok. But not Queen Bitch.

I intend to read Geoffrey O'Brien's book Sonata for Jukebox one of these days; his The Phantom Empire was a great film book written by a hypnotized acolyte.

Great soundtrack! I can't recall for sure, but the Tangerine Dream soundtrack may have been the reason I went opening weekend.
